what is the use and functionality of Engineering change management. explain with a scenario.

Engineering Change Management is a central logistics function that can be used to change

various aspects of production basic data (for example, BOMs, task lists, materials, and

documents) with history (with date effectivity) or depending on specific conditions (with parameter

effectivity).

Hi,

As already explained by other experts, ECM is used to track the changes and handle the changes with the objects like BOM, Task List, Material, Document, characteristic etc. Also note that ECM along with OCM is used to manage the changes of objects like BOM, tasklist having effect on the Production/Process orders.

1. In case if you need to have tracability of the changes then you can use the ECM

2. In the bill of mateiral if you need to have a control mechanism that all the BOM changes has to be done with ECM then you need to use this.

3. For this first you need to do the setting in the OS27 FOR THE bom.

4. Then You creat the ECM number with CC01.

5. With this Change number you can do the changes in the CS02 ( Bom changes).

6. Once a bom has been changed with Change number from then you will be able to do changes with the cahnge number only.
