Hi,
I am creating a system in EP to connect to MDM 7.1 server with the help of a std template "MDM System".
The moment i key in the server details and say next; it is giving me
"Failed to connect to MDM Server. Check your system. The server may be down or there may be an error in one or more of your system parameters."
What could be the reason?
The MDM server (version 7.1.04.117) is up. Repository is connected and loaded.

Alpana
Hi,
Is there any password on MDM server?? Also crosscheck if you have deployed correct version of Java API on portal.
Please check it and revert with the result.

Shiv

The exact name of the System on which the MDM Server is installed should be mentioned here along with any password if you have given else leave it blank.
I think Java API version should be compatible with MDM version.
You can also check for,
1. Sometimes Security settings on the EP do not allow external connections and the System Admin should be consulted in such cases.
2. Any appropriate MDM System Name and ID can be specified to Indentify the connection MDM System uniquely
Hope it helps...

Hi Mandeep,
Thanks for responding.
You said "The exact name of the System on which the MDM Server is installed should be mentioned here along with any password if you have given else leave it blank.
"
Where exactly is this "here"? Since the template asks only for MDM Server name. Am i missing something?

Alpana
Hi Alpana,
A. Creating a Connection to the MDM server.
Step1: Template selection, you select here as MDM system right and then Go to Next.
Step2: Now, Any appropriate MDM System Name and ID can be specified to Indentify the connection MDM System uniquely using MDM connection Wizard, system Name* and System ID* and then Go to next.
Step3: Now i mean here in this MDM Server Properties, MDM Server* and Password
The exact name of the System on which the MDM Server is installed should be mentioned here along with any password if you have given else leave it blank as The default password for the MDM server is blank i.e. no entry is required in this case. and then Go to Next.
Step4: Select Repository and then Go to Next
Step5: Select Language and then finish
B. Creating an Alias for the connected MDM System
C. User Mapping for the Connected MDM System
D. Testing the Connection to MDM System
Also check, Sometimes Security settings on the EP do not allow external connections and the System Admin should be consulted in such cases.
Hope it helps..

Hi Alpana,
I would suggest for the following too, please check these steps from your side
1. Security settings on the EP. Do EP allow external connections. Consult with System Admin.
2. It could be also because of problem with the EP installation or the Web AS has not completed startup.
So try restarting EP Server(Portal) also.
Hope it helps..

Hi Alpana,
Navigate to the below mentioned url:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmdm71/helpdata/en/64/48a04270600d31e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
and follow the hierarchy:
Business Package for Master Data Management
-->Technical Description and Configuration
--> Importing the Business Package
Here, clearly mentioned that you have to undeploy the following MDM components, if they are contained in the Undeployment folder, using SDM tool:
○ com.sap.pct.mdm.appl.packages.mdm_550
○ com.sap.pct.mdm.tech.packages.mdm_550
○ com.sap.pct.mdm.tech.systems
○ com.sap.pct.mdm.tech.wizards
○ com.sap.pct.mdm.appl.masteriviews
○ com.sap.mdm.tech.connector
○ com.sap.mdm.tech.mdm4j
○ com.sap.mdm.uwl
○ com.sap.mdm.uwl.config
I have one more question, are you tring to connect MDM Standard repository with EP or is it MDM custom one?
If you are connecting MDM Standard repository then follow the below mentioned link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmdm71/helpdata/en/45/efdca6b7b404a9e10000000a114a6b/content.htm
This will explain you, how you can create system for standard MDM repository.

Hi Alpana,
Try below form console/command prompt of your EP server...
>ping <MDM Server Hostname/IP Address>
Let us know if it is working...

Hi Alpana,
As you are using SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s), make ensure that you should have Portal (EP) 7.0 SPS15 or higher to work with MDM 7.1. See the Techanical Data details for the same http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmdm71/helpdata/en/5e/48a04270600d31e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
Also, Refresh the Portal Content folder to make sure that the imported iView and system templates are activated and cached. Otherwise empty pages are displayed or you cannot create system objects.
Also check that you followed the same procedure for Importing the Business Package.

Hi Alpana,
Could you provide me answer of the following question so that I can try to help you out from your problem?
1. What is the version of your EP server (2004s/CE/7.1)?
2. What is the version of Portal content, which is deployed on your portal server?
3. Did you restart your Portal server after Portal content deployment?
4. Did you uninstall the old Poral content, while installing the new Portal content?
Note: MDM server version and MDM Portal Content version must be same to integrate between MDM and EP, especially while creating the system.
Thanks/ -Tarun
