Shouldn't use SAP PI ?

Former Member

Dear all,

I am new to this community.

I would like to know the future of SAP PI for next 3-4 years.

I am doing a course of SAP PI from [ITLC|http://itlconline.com/]. Can anyone please suggests whether [course contents|http://www.itlconline.com/picoursecontents.htm] are appropriate to work on a complex PI development project?

Although my learning experience from ITLC is very impressive, I am concern about the future of SAP PI. As per post [Shouldn't use SAP PI|http://searchsap.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid21_gci1378796,00.html], I feel SAP PI may disappear from the market at any point of time.

You all are working in SAP PI from many years. I will be thankful to you, if you let me know the scope of SAP PI and its future.

I will appreciate and award maximum points for the best answer. In addition, I will also award appropriate points for each reply.

Regards,

Neeraj.

hi,

>>>As per post Shouldn't use SAP PI,

this was commented on PI forum and blogs many times - please have a look

>>>feel SAP PI may disappear from the market at any point of time.

you can be sure it will - just like IDOCs and ABAP - it's just we don't know if this is going to be 5 or 20 years

>>>I will be thankful to you, if you let me know the scope of SAP PI and its future.

check the job portals to see which skills are most wanted on sap merkets - it's almost never "PI only"

>>>I will appreciate and award maximum points for the best answer. In addition, I will also award appropriate points for each reply.

please don't mention this in the post - it's agains the forum rules - just give points if you like

but don't mention about that ok ?

Hi Michal,

Thank you for your reply.

It is true that SAP PI is not a single tool that SAP's customers use But as of now, I am completely looking a career in SAP PI for 3- years. As said "hope for the best and prepare for the worst"

I am unable to edit my message So please ignore.

Hi,

>>>But as of now, I am completely looking a career in SAP PI for 3- year

PI will be used by many clients for the next 3 years for sure

look at business connector which is also extensively used and the last version was release in 2003 ?

so for the next 3 years no need to worry

Hi Neeraj,

As michal mentioned there are even some clients even they are using the very old sap business connector. Now sap said to update it becasue they are not going to support anymore in the future. So now the clients have to update either to xi or pi. So you have upgradation jobs over there.

Also since 7.1 has lot of advantages within the 3 yrs of which you are targeting mostly every client will update from xi to pi 7.1. So all the clients who ever is using xi will update to the latest version.

If pi is not there in market, then what will the clients use as middleware with sap? The budget they invested over these many years is of no use? So dont worry. As michal suggested along with pi learn some other module along with pi like basis or abap which will get you a nice future.
