Hi,
I have installed MDM BP 7.1 on a portal sandbox system inside the same network cell as the MDM server without any problems.
Now that I am trying to install the same BP on another portal located in a different network cell separated by a firewall from the MDM server, the MDM connection wizard gives an error: Failed to connect to MDM Server. Check your system. The server may be down or there may be an error in one or more of your system parameters.
From the bp installation instructions, I got the following:
For example, after logon to the operating system of the machine where J2EE is
installed, the following commands must not return a message of unsuccessfull
connection:
telnet <MDM Server> <RepositoryPortNumber>
telnet <MDM Server> <RepositoryPortNumber>+1
telnet <MDM Server> <RepositoryPortNumber>+2
telnet <MDM Server> 20005
Telnets for all repository ports are working, telnet for port 20005 doesn't work, however it doesn't work either on the sandbox system which is located in the same network cell as the MDM server.
It looks pretty much like a firewall issue - can anybody advise which ports are checked/used by the MDM connection wizard when trying to establish the connection?
Thanks,
Elmar
Dear Sonja,
Which operating system you are using for MDM server?
If it is windows then try adding host entry of your client machine into the host file of your server machine.
Also, if possible try creating session using MDM Java API from your client machine, you will get detail error...

Hi Sonja, Elmar
as of MDM 7.1 it is possible to define the MDM Server Port. Our local Servers are all running on port 59950 for example. You can easily find out the port of your server:
- Start MDM Console
- Mount your MDM Server
- Click on the Root entry SAP MDM Servers in Console
- The MDM Servers pane on the right hand side of the Console shows your server and the port it is using.
Ensure that this port is open in the Firewall and used by the Connection Wizard.
Best regards
Michael
