Form corruption on some workstations

We have developed an interactive form for users to enter offline and submit via email. We are preparing to move this into production, but we found that some workstations create forms that will not process correctly in the SMTP (email) function.

When a form is completed and sent via Outlook ( we use a submit button on the form) the email is returned with the error 554 ERROR_MESSAGE_STATE: USAGE ERROR

There is no short dump or SM21 log of this. The trace details show that the icm likely does not recognize the content correctly as pdf. It never makes the call to ADS. The workflow trace (and ST01) do not show that the user exit is called. We though that this might be the uuencode setting in Outlook, but it is not the cause.

Anyone else have this issue?

Changed the program that processes the forms to ignore that error - that solved the issue, but we never did find out why some workstations get the error.

The forms that fail do not look any different when opened on the workstation (or on any workstation). They do have a slightly larger size. So, on a workstation that is good you can fill out the form and the resulting saevd form might be 105k bytes. On the workstation that causes the problem you can complete the form with exactly the same data and get a saved form of 115k bytes. The OS is Windows xp SP3 and the Adobe is 9.1.3. Changing the Adobe to a different version (9.3) had no effect.

Well as I mentioned earlier there have been issues with Adobe Reader 9.0 and above hence please downgrade and see if it helps. 8.1.1 is "error free" Reader version in my opinion.

You may want to check the Adobe Reader version on the machines where the error arises. You should be using Reader 9.0 and below for your forms to work correctly.

Also another check you can make is whether the form you have developed is ZCI or ACF ?

Thanks for the suggestion. The form is ZCI. We are using reader 9.1 and 9.2

Would there be issues with readers above 9.0?

We did try removing 9.1.3 and replacing it with 9.2 or 9.3. The problem still occurred and is specific to the workstation. Some desktops with Reader 9.1.3 fail and others do not.

Is is possible that this is affected by IE 7.0 settings or by Outlook settings?

have you tried logging into one of those machines yourself to see if you can open them? if so, then it's some sort of rights issue. If not, it's a software issue.
