We can create the BO report with the help of BEx query without creating the universe . But what is the main difference between report we created with the datasource as BEx query and with the report with datasource as universe/IDT.
As both of these (Bex and universe connection to BO) allows you to create reports.But in Universe its has advantage of creating multisource universe, where you can create a data foundation layer based on multiple connections and you have advantage of custom sql script.
You can create reports with both options however with Universe, you can connect to multiple databases via the multi-source universe. You can consume Bex queries as well in Universe.
