Nametab (NTAB) Table Definition is 0 (RED)

Hi Gurus,

Nametab (NTAB) Table Definition is 0 (RED) on 3 out of 5 instances

In transaction code ST02 of 3 of our instances , Nametab (NTAB) Table Definition free space and free directory is 0 and 0:00%.

The space allocated for Nametab (NTAB) Table Definition suddenly dropped to 0 from 3rd March onwards.

The parameter to set for Max. number of table definitions buffered is rsdb/ntab/entrycount = 152000

My question is would there be any long term/short term impact to the system if this happen???

And is there anything I can do to rectify this situation besides stop/start?

Cheers,

Keat Seong

Your NTAB buffer should have some free space. If it's too small swapping occurs and this has in many cases a negative impact on the system performance. Also, as you can see per [OSS note 1398802|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1398802|Note 1398802 - Various problems if nametab buffer is too small] there's other problems that can creep up if your nametab buffer is too small.

[OSS note 16244|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/16244|Note 16244 - Setting nametab buffer sizes] contains some hints on setting the profile parameters for the nametab buffer sizes. However, your basis folks should know what to do...

Cheers, harald

p.s.: Depending on your release, the documentation for the rsdb/ntab/entrycount profile parameter might be wrong; check out [OSS note 849454|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/849454|Note 849454 - Documentation for the rsdb/ntab/entrycount profile parameter].
