enque/table_size - Changing the parameter value

Former Member

Hi folks,

I'm fairly new to SAP so was hoping for a bit of guidance with this matter.

I need to increase the parameter value for "enque/table_size". It's currently set to the default 4096kb and we're seeing a lot of lock table overflow errors.

As the default value with Kernel 7.01 is 32MB, this seems like a good place to kick off.

I've gone into RZ11 and entered the parameter name.

Presumably, I select "CurrentValue" and Edit > Change Value?

Because Change Value is greyed out.

I have SAP_All in terms of authority.

So I'm a bit puzzlied!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

In RZ11 we can only change value for parameters which are dynamic (the value set in RZ11 will be reset to original after the system restart). And all parameters are not dynamic. Which ever parameter we are able to change in RZ11 and dynanmic and others are static (which means for these parameter we have set the value in RZ10 tcode in either default or instance profile based on requirement which requires restart of the instance for the value to take effect)

This greyed out of RZ11 has nothng to do with authorization even you have SAP_ALL. So, now in your case you have set it through RZ10 in instance profile and take a restart of the instance.

Hope clarified.

Thanks & Regards,

Thank you both for your helpful replies.

THis has clarified why the change value option is greyed out.

However, this leads me to another question.

In RZ10, this parameter is not in the list.

I maybe missing something very obvious here.

Thanks again.

The fact that is not showing in the instance profile means that the parameter has the default value, simply create the parameter and add the new value, then restart the system.

Excellent, that has answered my question.

Many thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.

Good morning,

Sorry to "re-open" an answered question.

Yesterday, I added the parameter "enque/table_size" to RZ10 with the value of 32768 and saved it accordingly.

My manager then restarted the server overnight.

This morning, the parameter has not saved. It's not in RZ10 anymore and the value is still the default 4096.

I've obviously gone wrong somewhere along the line.

Does anyone have any ideas what I may have missed?

Many thanks

It seems your profile is not activated properly .

First search for the value of the parameter in RZ11 or TU02 , If the value of the parameter is old proceed as either of the follows

1 ) Go to /sapmnt/<SID>/profile , open the DEFAULT.PFL in an editor and add the entries . Bounce the system and check whetehr the entry appears in theRZ10 ( DEFAULT.PFL ) , since enqueue might be configured only in CI you can also do it in the instance profile

2 ) Second option is to go to RZ10 , Open Default or instance profile ( Extended Maintainance ) , create the parametes ,Copy . Save . Activate the profile . Check version of the profile . Bounce the system and check again . This step is recommended

Thanks ,

Thanks for the quick reply. And forgive me going through this step by step, this is the first time i've done any changes like this.

I think I see the step I missed.

Ok so I've created the parameter in RZ10 (Instance Profile).

Hit Copy, then saved.

I now have enque/table_size at the top of the list in RZ10.

How do I now Activate the Profile?

I've just found found out how to activate the profile.

Thanks again.

Hi Aston ,

Once you are done with the activation , Bounce the system . And check the value in RZ10 or Tu02 . Tu02 will give you an overview of all the parameters .

Thanks ,

Manu

You can only change "Dynamic Parameters" in RZ11, you need to change the parameter is RZ10 and restart your system
