I am trying to find out how well Solution Manager performs as a configuration management tool.
I'm looking for a system that provides the following necessary areas of configuration management:
Configuration indentification: uniquely identifies all items in the configuration
Configuration control: control procedures for making controlled changes to configuration items
Configuration status accounting: ways to record and report of current status and history of the configuration
Configuration auditing: tools to assist with audits to check what has been delivered is consistent with project documentation
Configuration diagrams to graphically view the relationships betweent he configuration items
The possibility to take configuration baselines at certain phases of the project, typically at milestones
Configuration items can be but are not limited to: code, requirements specifications, test scripts, test results, change requests, functional specifications; any artefact that relates to the code.
Can solution manager handle such requirements? If not, is there another tool that SAP offers that can?
BR,
Tony.

Hello,
I have started to study use of Solution Manager to do Configuration Management (ITIL style)
Apparently, it will fit the bill for any software elements (as listed, for instance, by Anthony) either thru use of the CMDB (Configuration Management database) itself or using the repository included to add these elements.
I am investigating the interest of adding SAP Infrastructure Management (which could overlap with other existing tools) and how to interface Solution manager with these tools.
I'll keep you posted.
