BWA7.20 Upgrade?

Former Member

Colleagues,

Has anyone gone through upgrading the BWA to BWA7.20? how was the upgrade complexity? I heard from SAP that it's almost like applying a revision!

How stable is your BWA after being upgraded to BWA7.20?

Thank you,

Ali Q.

Hi all,

I updated BWA7.20 and added BO Explorer XI3.2 to new blade servers.

Regarding BWA7.20, it was no difference with BWA7.0.

As mentioned BO Explorer XI3.2, it need well understand the network connection with BWA and BW.

For example, client segment and BW-BWA segment should be separate ,and so on.

Did you install as well Data Services on a separate blade or one the same blade as Explorer?

Thanks,

Thanks to all who have shared their experiences with BWA7.20. I would love to see experiences from productive BWA7.20 with BO Explorer 2 especially the stability of the system since additional indexing is required for BO Explorer (e.g. text, hierarchies, authorization... etc).

It would be also great to see how BWA7.20 works with Data Services in bringing non-SAP BW data to the Explorer.

I will leave this thread open for others to share their test results and experiences.

Hi Ali,

Sorry I do not have an answer, but I do have a question. It would be interesting to know: with BW 7.20 being canceled, what is your business or technical case for BWA 7.20?

Thank you,

Hi Vitaliy,

We're in the process of evaluating SAP BusinessObjects Explorer 2.0 (Accelerated or Blade edition). As you know, Explorer 2.0 works with BW7.01 (EhP1) SP05 and BWA7.20 since it takes advantage of the new features of BWA7.20 such as support for MultiProviders,CKF's and RKF's, indexing non-BW data through data services... etc (check SAP Note 1384526 for a list of features). However, BWA7.20 will not add anything new to BEx queries until the next release of BW (BW7.3).

Ali,

We have implemented BWA 7.20 Rev 3 in one of our test environmnets.

We have also implemented Business Objects Explorer Wave 2 in this environments. that was our driver behind upgrading to 7.20

we are on Ehp1 sp02. Even though SP05 is a minimum requirement for Wave 2, we were able to get it up and running for most of the part in a test environment.

Complexity - yes, it's no different from upgrading to just another revision. There is no extra upgrade effort required.

Stable - since we havent implemented this in production yet, I can't say much about stability and memory/CPU management. but our test system has been running fine with no issues so far.
