SAP BI System Copy from Itanium to PA-RISC

Hello,

I have an SAP BW system with a Java add-in installed running on a Itanium HP-UX that has to be replicated periodically to an alternate server, a HP PA-RISC.

I've read the SAP notes and they say this copy is homogeneous and it's fully supported but i found nothing about a copy from Itanium to PA-RISC. Does anyone know if that procedure is valid? . If so, where can i find documentation?.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you very much.

    The question is:

What do you mean with "replicate"? A 1-to-1 copy is not possible (different binaries for the kernel) but you can copy the database from PA-RISC to IA64.

Note 612796 - Move to HP-UX Itanium systems

Note 671804 - Oracle database migration from HP-UX PA-Risc to Itanium

    And before I forget:

As soon as Java comes into place you must use sapinst to do the copy. You can copy the database but you have to use the Java migration toolkit embedded in sapinst to "pack" the source system and export it and import it into the target system.

    Hello Markus,

Thanks for your response. I've checked those sap notes and according to them i could perform a system copy from PA-RISC to Itanium. In the end, what would be the procedure of combining a database copy of abap stack and a sapinst database export of java add-in?.

      Hi Raymond,

It is possible for you to import only java if you have already made the ABAP system using regular backup- restore

method. however it is needed to do some adjustments as sapinst thinks to install ABAP+JAVA. This methd is useful when you have very less downtime of source system or if you have only online backup of source system. but this method is no where mentioned by sap, so i am afraid it may not be recommended.

      Thanks and regards
