Dear Gurus,
Can any one explain me What is Meant by Account based planning and Keyfigure based planning in IP.
Regards
Amar.
Hi Amar,
Keyfigure oriented data model has a varialble(column) for each key figure.
This approach keeps number of records small but length of records grows considerably and may generate empty cells
Account(characteristic) based data model has a variable foreach type of keyfigure
(amount, qty etc). This model is expanded with a dimension for the type of keyfigure.
Here the no: of records grow considerably but length of records remain short
Keyfigure based:
Customer, City, Bill Amount, Invoice Amount,
Roger, AU, 100,110
Mike, PR, 200,220
Account based:
Customer, City, KF Type, Amount
Roger, AU, Bill, 100
Roger, AU, invoice, 110
Mike, PR,Bill,200
Mike, PR,invoice,220
Also the decision to which model has to be chosen is more based on data storage
aspects of the data targets rather than on business
Key figure based is better when you have keyfigure columns filled for the most of the cells
Account based is better when you have more empty cells for keyfigures
Refer to SAP Note 407563 for a comparison on the two, with example. It also gives advantages/disadvantages of both from a modelling and technical perspective.
Hope it helps

Hello Amar,
Account based Planning
You can use this business process to plan non-promoted sales for a planning account.
Account planning provides you with a sophisticated picture of all planned revenue, associated costs and contribution margin. This enables you to make more informed decisions during planning, and to better control costs from trade spends and discounts. Planning is embedded in general account management functions, and is easy to use and accessible.
The integration of account planning with SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) and SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) systems reduces the administrative effort of maintaining data, and can increase the accuracy of this data.

Key figure Planning
Key figure planning is a planning functionality that allows you to measure the performance of an organization, a department, a project, or other by setting plan values for important business key figures. You can later use these plan values in reporting for comparing plan data with actual data. The reporting results can then serve as a basis for future decisions.
Thanks
Geeta
