Exclusion of Material codes in Costing key determination

Hi,

I have certain material codes of FERT type, which need to be excluded from costing key determination. My basic setting for costing key determination is Material Type.

I have tried using KEPC:

Material -> Blank Costing key

However, it doesnt seem to work.

Please suggest.

Thanks a lot for your response..

Actually I would like to exclude certain material codes from costing key determination. In KE4H, can I assign a blank costing key to these 3-4 material codes.

The requirement of exclusion of these material codes is that the client is using MTO (only logistics purpose) and would not like to go with sales order costing. They are ok if COPA is updated with the costs and revenue settled at period end.

As such, the current setting of costing key determination at material type level would cause problems at the time of releasing of such billing documents, and hence requires exclusions. Please suggest if KE4H with blank costing key would work.

Thanks

HI,

So, you want to maintain only exclusions, by mapping Material type in KE4J.

I don't think, the exclusion works that way. If SAP does not find the costing key through KE4H (blank key or no entry), next in sequence, can find it through KE4J for that particular material through Material type. Check if you can find a common Characteristic (if need be, you can consider deriving custom characteristic) and use KEPC to define a mapping. Of course, no mapping in KE4H/4J for KEPC to work.

Hope this helps.

Hi Pradeep,

Could you please clarify on the last statement: "no mapping in KE4H/4J for KEPC to work"

Further, SAP help says, "Likewise, no valuation is carried out if an entry exists in one of these assignment tables but does not contain a costing key". If that is the case, if I maintain in KEPC for the specific material costing key as blank, then the above statement should hold good isnt it.. But it doesnt.

Hi,

Yes, KE4H is a better option, when you want to access cost estimate specific to certain materials. Specify only those materials for which you want to access cost estimate in KE4H.

In terms of priority:

KE4H - Material specific

KE4J - Materila type

KEPC - flexible Characteristics

Hope this helps.

Are you assigning the costing key by material type with t-code KE4J? If so, the settings in KEPC does not override the costing key found in that table. You can assign the " " costing key to a specific material in t-code KE4H and that will take precedent on KE4J. Alternatively, delete all settings in KE4J and KE4H and maintain your ruls only in KEPC. KEPC gives you a lot more options on how to assign the costing key.

thanks,
