About setting G/L Account currency

I have an G/L account which account currency is USD. Actually, for this account should be CNY. Now, accounts dept ask me to change the currrency to CNY. Then I use fbl3n to check the account status, I found that there have some open item for both USD and CNY. My question is if I just change the account currency to CNY in fs00, is that ok? And finally, the accounts guy want the G/L account only have CNY item appear. What should I do. Thanks!

Hello Portfolio,

Before considering openning a new GL account with new currency, I would strongly suggest analyse the number of open line items with USD in the current GL account. If the number of open line items are manageable, then post them and clear the USD line items whereas the CNY currency items can continue to be posted and in future you only have postings to this GL account in CNY.

On the other hand if the open USD line items are greater in number, then you can explore the possibility of creating a new GL account with desired currency and such like.....

Prerequisite

If you want to change the account currency in GL then balance of that account must be zero which means there must not be any open item. So, you have two ways......

1. Wait for the line items to be cleared and then change the account currency to CNY.

2. Create one GL account with currency CNY and transfer the old GL accounts items to new one.

How about I create another G/L account for CNY. Then i transfer all CNY items from old G/L account to new G/L, is it possible? Thanks!

Of course possible......

For e.g. if there is one item in the account.....

1000 USD (and exchange rate set currenly in OB08 is 6 CNY per USD)

So you will make entry for 6000 CNY.......

So in your old account transaction currency will be converted into local currency 1000 USD then you will clear your old account.

If you want your old account to continue then transfer the 6000 CNY from new to old. Then block the new GL so further posting can not be made.

Dear,

After clearing the open items, then try to give the account currency as CYN in FS00 control data tab. The user will not be able to post to any other currency apart from CYN for the GL.
