We have a requirement to get the Maintenance cost as % of Production cost. Can someone suggest an approach of how to find the cost details for the maintenance and production areas?
we are asked to develop a BI report, showing this ratio. What we are interested in knowing is should we hard code a set of cost centers/ cost elements to identify what is production costs and whats maintenance cost?
First of you have to segregate the group of material or type of material used in Maintenance & operation then you can fetch the consumption cost of both in MB51.Aso ensure that the project related cost should be excluded.

One more thing you can do as per my experience in your company too the settlement of cost should be on operation cost centre.Here you can track the source of cost ( operation, Maintenance, services etc) can calculate the % of Maintenance and operation cost.You know under each costcentre there are many cost element assigned so you can track the cost of specific area.
