password for <SID>adm expired.... can I reset it in Active Directory?

I need to apply patches to our Portal J2EE engine 7.0. As per SAP , we need to use OS account <SID>adm.

This account resides in Active Directory( we integrated SAP portal with Active Drectory).

Now, the AD guys have changed the password policy for all AD accounts, and as a consequence we cannot login to our <SID>adm account anymore. Portal runs fine, no issues, it is just that we cannot start Windows Command Prompt under account <SID>adm and we cannot apply patches.

My questions:

1.is there an alternative account ( besides <SID>adm ) that we can use for patching?

2. can I reset the <SID>adm password in Active Directory? will portal still work? will Portal know the password of <SID>adm?

3. can I reset the <SID>adm password in portal? what is the procedure for that?

Your help is appreciated.

Tiberiu

Hello Tiberu,

You cannot use other user to patch your system, because some tools, like JSPM check which user is used and abort if the user is not <SID>ADM.

The portal is actually not started with the <SID>adm user.

Instead a user called SAPService<SID> is used.

You should be able to change the password from active directory without a problem.
