Material Description longer than 40 digits?

Hi,

in the migration excel for materials in row 7 (description) it is mentioned, that the material description may be 80 digits long.

This would be great! How can that be achieved?

Dear Klaus,

to answer the question for ByDesign: Here the field length for the Material Description is indicated as
"Length: 40 (80)" with a reference to the general migration template introduction help text that describes the details:

"you can enter up to 80 characters, which you must shorten to 40 characters during value conversion when you are processing the file."
This offers the option to use the Value Conversion functionality to shorten any description ín the source file that might be longer (with truncation as the default).

Which excel sheet do you mean? However, if you are in ERP, the description is 40 characters long. However, there is a long text available - you could use this to store more information. If you want a short description that is longer, you could think about an extension of the material master tables:

- create an append to table MAKT that contains a 80char field

- follow the instructions given in SPRO to extend the material master maintenance programs to bring this field to your MM01/02/03 screens
