Dear Experts,
I have 2 enquiries regarding Fixed Asset planned depreciation.
1. When or during what event is the planned depreciation of each periods under the Fixed Asset Master calculated??
2. I have noticed that some Fixed Asset have different planned depreciation amounts. For eg, a FA acquisited at $4900 suppose to depreciate over a period of 36 months should have a periodic planned depreciation of $136.11. However I realized the system calculated planned depreciations is sometimes $136, sometimes $136.14, sometimes $68.
How can this happen??
Please help revert urgently. Much Thanks!
Chinho
Check the Deprecation Type associated with the assets, this will determine the rate used, whether the calculation is part or full month, daily basis etc and can be different for each type.

These values are calculated during the fiscal year change. You can try running this again to see if they reset.
The system does do some odd things (well I think they are odd) around the depreciation calculations. Do check the SAP Notes, there is some explanation there.
If the assets are exactly the same , they should be behaving the same way though
Hi Gordon,
I have confirmed that the user did not change any decimal settings.
Hi Julie,
We have found out that those FAs that did not have planned depreciation auto-calculated had its "Depreciation start date" as empty in the FA Master > General Tab. I wonder why is this so, because previously in the previous Fiscal year (before the current Fiscal Year Change), there WAS a value for the "Depreciation start date", but after the latest Fiscal Year Change, it seems that the field value was cleared off automatically. After I re-keyed in the Depreciation start date in the field and run Fiscal Year change again, the Planned depreciation value was finally calculated normally and OK.
But, we found out more problem:
1. For some FAs, there is 1 extra planned depreciation calculated by the system.
a. Eg. Remaining life = 3, but Planned Deprec was auto calculated for 4 periods
2. Planned depreciation calculated by system varies by a lot. The planned depreciation for the same FA can be $138 for 1 period, and $64 for another period.
Any advice on this? Bugs?
Warmest Regards,
Chinho
Hi Julie,
The SAP Note did not help.
But I found out the reason for my issue item 1 and item 2:
Reason for issue 1: No planned depreciation was calculated for certain FA because in the FA Master Data > General Tab, we notice that the Depreciation Start Date field is now empty. Now, it wasn't empty before, but it was somehow set to empty when Fiscal Year Change was first ran. I just fill it up and run Fiscal Year Change again and the planned depreciation value is calculated now.
Reason for issue 2: The reason why the system calculated a different planned depreciation value was also due to the Depreciation Start Date. For some FAs that have depreciation start date as 15/10/2009 and an initial remaining life of 5 months will find that the last month of planned depreciation is March next year, instead of February. This is because the depreciation start date is not the first date of the month. Hence, 15/10/2009 + 5 months = 14/3/2009. Therefore it ends at March, with the remaining planned depreciation value spread across 1 additional month, resulting in the variance in the depreciaition value across the various life of the FA.
Hope it helps!
Warmest Regards,
Chinho
Hi Chinho,
Have you changed some of your decimal places settings after the FA item added?
Thanks,
Gordon
