You're right that the settlement strategy is for assigning a default settlement rule, but you don't need it for settling to AUC asset. You should assign an investment profile to your investment measure (internal order / WBS element). The investment profile is part of he investment management module. Once you do that, the system will automatically create an AUC asset when you create the investment measure. The AUC asset will automatically be assigned to the periodic settlement rule once you post to the order and run the settlment transaction.

You don't need to implement investment management, you just need to use 1 small piece of it. Just go to t-code OITA to see the investment profiles that already come with your system. Select the one you want to use ( I suggest profile 000001), and enter the asset class you've setup for AUC in the fixed asset module. That's it. The rest of the configuration belongs to the CO, PS, and FA modules.

Use t-code OPSA to create a project profile. In the profile assign the investment profile. You should also assign a settlement rule. The settlment rule must allow settlement to a fixed asset. When you create your project you will create it with reference to the project profile and the investment profile and settlment rule should copy into an WBS element you create.

Also, in FA configuration, the AUC asset class you entered into the investment profile should have the investment managment box checked (t-code OAOA). You can use asset class 4001 for this or use it as a reference.
