ECC system performance is very poor

Hi Experts,

we are facing major performance issues for the past 15 days. please let me know if any forums, SAP notes or any other information which will help me to resolve this performance issue. the configuration is as follows:

Server: ECC 6.0 (one CI and 2 app. servers). we have not configured background jobs on the 2 application servers as we are unable to access one mounted directory from the both. I will explain it clearly if this might be a show stopper.

OS: AIX 5.3.7.3 (no. of CPUs =12), RAM 17 GB

Database: Db2 v9.5(fix pack 0) (total DB size= 600 GB)

max number of concurrent users=1000.

please let me know what all the parameters I need to consider. i wanted to tune all SAP, AIX and DB related parameters.

Thanks in advance,

Mohan K

Mohan,

Performance is low all the time or during peak hours.

Check your CPU, Memory & Swap use in system. Update statastics regularly. check health of database index. Check read write time to database.

Please go through following thread. Lot of useful information.

Hi,

How is your system setup ? Apps DIA workprocesses...etc etc.

Where are the users logging in ?

What OS are the Apps ?

1000 concurrent users! on a system of 1 CI and 2 apps....Seems your system is a bit light on Apps...

Have you done a proper sizing exercise....Have you had a go live report done by SAP....

Is the CI and Apps sitting on a Gigibit LAN ?

Hi,

In addition to others suggestion, if you have early watch alert setup then check the areas the performance is poor and act on these. I would strongly suggest to make one change at a time and check and tune application appropriately.

I would suggest to check the hardware team, OS team to provide their inputs as well along with network team as they would be aware of any strange behavior.( paging, disk issues, memory bottlenecks, improperly setup network)

I would check in st03n if any dialog, background or any area is having significant values in terms of response time >1sec, db time more than 50% of your response time.

You have specified 1000 users, let us know if these are not concurrent and see if the wait times are high in your dialog/background responses.

Please check your st22 dumps and system log to see if any problems are observed.

As you provide more details we can assist your investigation further.

Cheers Sam

For the j2ee part, you can check note 723909. Since its AIX, please ensure the latest recommended jdk is installed and the required memory tuning/parameters are maintained as per notes:

1024539, 1008311,1053495,1259465

Please also check the garbage colelction pattern to see if there are frequent and/or long GCs being executed by JVM.

Hope the above helps.
