negative opening quantity in MB5B

Hi,

In MB5B I could see some quantity in -ve as opening quantity.

I have checked in MB51 , but there has been no posting of -ve quantity .

Also there is no customizing setting maintained for allowing the posting of -ve quantity.

Can anyone let me know, from where this -ve quantity could have come.

Thanks

Sameer

do you know whether you archived already material documents?

MB5B CALCULATES the stock based on movements. So in most cases it shows wrong values if you exclude movements thru selection criteria or if movements are not anymore there because of archiving.

Hi

the negative stock in MB5B report may be because of posting a material in the past date in current entry date. So goto layout fix posting date and entry data side by side , then you will know why negative stock has appeared. Still if your problem is not solved give us more information like what selections you are giving. Bcoz if you give specific movement type in selection you may get negative values.

Hi Antony,

We have not given any movement type . In selection we have only given the company code, plant and material.

In the report we see as below:

Stock on 01.01.0000 as -200 kg (-ve qty)

Please advice

Thanks

Hi

What is the stock value in MC.9? Is it negative? If not As Jurgen said Check the note 690027 to understand how MB5B works. I am pasting question number 5 from that note for your under standing.

5. Question:

Transaction MB5B displays negative stocks for the posting date even though the settings in Customizing do not permit negative stocks.

Answer:

The user starts Transaction MB5B and restricts the selection by the posting date. There is a negative stock and/or a negative value in the list output. If you start transaction MB5B without restricting the selection by the posting date, it displays correct values.

The system displays the negative stocks for the following reasons:

- The stocks and values are managed at period level in the system.

- In this document, the entry date differs from the posting date.

- The selection was restricted using a posting date that lies between the posting date and the entry date.

The following example explains the behavior of Transaction MB5B:

Entry date Posting date Period MM document Qty Stock 0

DEC/01/2005 DEC/01/2005 12/2005 GR 001 +100

100

DEC/15/2005 DEC/15/2005 12/2005 GI 123 -90

10

JAN/16/2006 JAN/16/2006 01/2006 GR 002 +350

360

JAN/16/2006 JAN/02/2006 01/2006 GI 124 -150

210

The goods issue MM document GI 124 was posted to the past but in the same period. In this document, the entry date differs from the posting date.

If, in Transaction MB5B, you restrict the posting date from JAN/01/2004 to JAN/15/2006, Transaction MB5B will show the following result:

Stock on JAN/01/2004 0

Receipts +100

Issues -140

Stock on JAN/15/2006 -140

Posting date MM document Quantity

DEC/01/2005 GR 001 +100

DEC/15/2005 GI 123 -90

JAN/02/2006 GI 124 -150

When you restrict the selection by the posting date, the database selection does not find the GR 002 goods receipt MM document. It is taken into account when calculating the stocks for the posting date.

If Transaction MB5B returns such a result, start the transaction again without restricting the selection by the posting date or restrict the posting date corresponding to the periods, for example JAN/01/2006 to JAN/31/2006.
