Netweaver AS doubts

Any body please resolve these doubts..Thank you so much in advance

a)A configuration like below is possible

a host with only message server configured.(no instance..(dispatcher etc))?Does it work? Can it(this particular server) be called an application server then?

a)logon load balancing is optional?users can login in directly to dispatcher bypassing messg.server? When does such a scenario arises? Is it still possible when we have multiple instances?

c)In JAVA runtime,is there this logon load balancing. If so how does it happen?JAVA Message service performs the same?

d)Do spool and enqueue process too connected to abap DB schema ?If yes, why? They never communicate with db rite.?

    Hi Teenu,

    1. How can you install standalone MS configured with out any instance and dispatcher? It will not work and we cannot call it as application server, since by the definition of the app server is to process, how the requests gets processed if no instance with out NR is configured?

2.I think there is no scenario where users will directly login into dispatcher with out passing MS,since MS is the must and should entry to configure to process the requests

3.Yes there is a logon load balancing will happen if you configure app server ,using JAVA MS balancing act will happen.Best example if you install Portal with app servers, user requests will route to the particular app sever with less load

4.To me there is no fundamental difference in work process how they interact with DB,because each work process type of their specific characterstic will perform the job and interact the DB accordingly.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Teenu,

a)A configuration like below is possible

a host with only message server configured.(no instance..(dispatcher etc))?Does it work? Can it(this particular server) be called an application server then?

Ans : I think it is not possible

a)logon load balancing is optional?users can login in directly to dispatcher bypassing messg.server? When does such a scenario arises? Is it still possible when we have multiple instances?

Ans : Yes, Users can directly logon to a specific dispatcher, they need to give the IP address & Instance number in SAPGUI of that instance...there can be many scenarios..for instance..say ..a set of users need to run heavy reports, we can give a single application to those users & change the parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time to 0 of that instance. This is possible even if you have multiple instances.

c)In JAVA runtime,is there this logon load balancing. If so how does it happen?JAVA Message service performs the same?

Ans : Yes , it happens the same way...you can either use sapwebdispacher (Server based Load balancing) or use the standard message server (Client Based load balancing) to distribute the load.

d)Do spool and enqueue process too connected to abap DB schema ?If yes, why? They never communicate with db rite.?

Ans : In ABAP all the info is only in the database so spool wp needs to connect to the database in order to print the requested data

    Thank You,
