Crystal Reporting Version advice

Seeking recommendations on best versions of Crystal reports. Currently using v. 2011. Having issues with 255 character limitations on string fields, it is my understanding that v. XI can overcome this? Also, looking for recommendation on best version for usability and enhancements.

Need more info, XI or 2011 should not have an issue with 256 character. Crystal 8.5 and previous had that limit but no current versions do.

What type of field is it?

What DB are you using?

What DB Client are you using?

How are you connecting to the DB, OLE DB, ODBC, Native or????
