Removing "data retention at plant level" for another purchasing organization

Hello together,

I am very new to SAP systems, just started in a consulting company, so do not expect too much knowledge please. Nevertheless I searched a lot but did not find an appropriate answer to my question.

My problem is the following:

Assume I have a vendor that has multiple purchasing organizations. For one of those I now want to add additional purchasing data on a certain plant level. To do this I have to set the flag "data retention at plant level enabled" for a certain purchasing organization "X" and enter the plant data. So far so good.

But now i can go into another purchasing organization "Y" and disable that flag again. Since this flag seems to be maintained in LFA1 but the plant data is in LFM2 (I think), the data still exists and can be accessed but the flag is not set anymore. That itself is already quite disturbing to me. If you try to unflag the option in "X" you are asked whether you want to delete the plant information - otherwise you cannot disable the flag in "X".

That aside, an error occured when trying to distribute such a vendor along with the purch. data into another sap system - using an idoc. I guess that comes from the flag not being distributed but still trying to distribute the plant data which should not even be there according to the flag...

Now of course I could just delete the plant data but that would be too easy. My question rather is: did I maybe do something wrong here or is it possible that this is an error by SAP?

Hope someone can help!

Kind regards
