Change Depreciation Key for an Asset

Hi Guys,

We want to change the depreciation key for an Asset in Depreciation area 02 ( local Depreciation ).

This asset has no values in 2009 and this asset is acquired in 2010 and depreciation already posted for period 1.

Now , when we try to change the depreciation key for depreciation area 02, the system gives us a run time error.( an abap dump ).

How can we change the depreciation key for this particualr asset ??

Please suggest.

Thanks

Srikanth.

    Also,

If Depreciation Terms are changed SAP will recalculate Depreciaiton for open Fiscal years.

In your case system will propose new Planned depreciation values once you change the depreciation key. Do AFAR (Recalculate Depreciation) to confirm change in Depreciaiton value. New depreciation will be posted from start of Fiscal year.

You can post an Unplanned depreciation (as the new dep. rate is more than the existing) through ABAA to adjust the depreciation posted.

Future depreciation will be calculated and posted based on new rate.

    Hi Srikanth

Do you want to post the depreciation for closed Fiscal year?

If yes First calculate unplanned depreciation for the difference up to the last closed fiscal year and post in the current year.

Now after posting this then change the depreciation key in the asset master and in the next run the system identifies the difference between posted value with the old Key and teh correct key and adjusts the difference in the current period depreciation run.

If the user don't want to post the values of the previous years, change the key in asset master so that the difference in the depreciation from the start of the fiscal year is adjusted in the current period.

Future impact - if the option is second the asset life will be more when compared to the actual life. In first case there is no effect.

    Rgds,

    Zub
