Optimizer planning using Schedules and freight units

Hi Team,

We have defined road schedules and also have defined vehicles with scheduled MTr. The same scheduled MTr is assigned in schedule. We have following expectation

1) In transportation cockpit, user will be able to select the schedule and freight units and vehicles and then will run the planning optimizer

2) System will create the freight order according to schedule (with all applicable stops) and then assign possible freight units and will also assign available vehicle and driver to this freight order. No transportation lanes are maintained though.

As scheduled vehicles are no displayed in cockpit, we are unable to select vehicle resources and hence planning run also fails. Any suggestions here?

for information of the moderator: the answer from Benno is correct. It is not possible to select both vehicles and schedules in the version of TM where this question was asked. The solution is to run the optimizer in 2 separate runs.

Thanks Benno for your reply. In fact the question you asked in other post is till open. I did try looking in to capacity selection settings but everything seems fine there.

Dear Sandeep,

I think this is indeed the way to go. You first create a schedule, subsequently you run the standard SAP report(/SCMTMS/MP_SCHED_CREATE_TOR.) to create FO's e.g. every night. The next step is indeed to plan this FO(based on a schedule) with the resources and the FU's.

However there are other sources which indicate other solutions are also possible(as far as I understand it):

Good Luck!

Thanks Benno for your reply. I also approached SAP and they are saying the same. I tried your suggestion but it is not working. I suspect the reason could be that the system adds 'Active Vehicle' in freight order to which the FU gets assigned. Even if I remove the schedule assignment manually from the FO, still the active vehicle remains and may be this is not allowing further vehicle assignment. System even doesn't allow to remove this active vehicle from the freight order. Optimizer log gives shows error "Freight order has at least one stop with initial status partially Fixed". I raised this to OSS on which they replied that optimizer will not assign vehicles to FO created out of schedule.

It is bit strange why such restrictions for road schedules as one should be able to assign vehicle based on availability. Now I am thinking that may be I create a empty FO using custom program by reading the schedule and then subject this FO to normal optimizer planning

Dear Sandeep,

It is correct that is does not work, I asked the same question to SAP once and got the following answer:

"It's indeed as you state - a Schedule MTr type Truck cannot be directly used to plan a Freight Order. A Freight Order for a Schedule MTr Truck must be planned through the Schedule instead.

That's the current case for TM 9.3, 9.4 and even 9.5.

The TC restricts insertion of Trucks in the Resource Area or the Gantt Chart Resources section - a brief description is given in KBA ##2613649."

But what I think you can do(not sure) is to create 2 planning runs. The first planning run creates a FO based on the FU and the schedule. In the second planning run you assign the FO to a resource. I think this will only work since TM9.4. Please share your findings.

With kind regards,
