Archiving batches

Dear community,

As you know, the batch mgmt indicator in material master can't be removed without previously archiving the batches. This is logical and it is fine.

We run the batch archiving with MM_SPSTOCK and got stuck due to production orders. The batches may not be archived if there are prod. orders containing them. It doesn't help that the orders are CLSD. They need to be removed entirely. This poses an issue for us: the historical prod. orders may not be removed since they serve as the basis for SN trace and cost reports.

Have you faced such issue? Any ideas how it can be overcome?

I know there's possibility to ask SAP to reset the BM flag in the material master without archiving the batches (note 533383), but it costs. In such case, we would rather create a new material number.

TIA

Raf

Most clients I've been at find it easier and faster to create a new material. Especially if its a handful of materials. If you need to do a mass change of thousands, (probably unlikely), you'll probably want to talk to SAP.
