How to enable the employee id so an instructor can see the name and ID

In some cases we have a common surname, therefor when adding a learner to a class the employee id needs to display.

How is this enabled.

You should try the steps mentioned in the KBA. 2481903

Organization Description and email address. System Admin > Configuration > System Configuration > Search > Additional Identifier in User Type Ahead Search

The choice is between – Blank, Person External ID, email Address and Organization

Please note that this behaviour will be seen only if you have Catalog 3 enabled.
