How to check if the CMS database driver is installed?

Hi Experts,

i try to use the Universe and Webi-Reports from the "BI on BI" Folder. I imported the lcmbiar-File in the BI. In the IDT i am able to connect to the CMS-DB and with the Webi-Rich-Client i can use the Samplereports, but if i open the Webi-Report or try to create a new one on the universe in the BI-Launchpad this error occurs:

Der folgende Datenbankfehler ist aufgetreten: (CS) "Specified RDBMS is invalid : SAP BI platform CMS system database" . Weitere Informationen zu diesem Fehler erhalten Sie im SAP-Wissensdatenbankartikel 2054721 auf dem SAP Support Portal. (IES 10901) (Error: INF )

It seems to be a Problem with the Database-Driver. Our BI is on 4.2 SP06 Patch 3. As mentioned in Note 2405568 the Driver should be installed by default. Is there any possibility to check, if the driver is installed correctly? Or has anyone an idea, how to solve the problem?

Best regadrs

Daniel

follow below steps.

  1. Go to Control Panel -> Programs ->Programs and Features.
  2. Select the base BI platform installation. i.e. SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1Note: DON’T select 4.2 update.
  3. Click on Uninstall/Change.
  4. Click Modify
  5. Select Database Access-> CMS DB Driver to install. (check if CMS DB driver is selected or not.If not then select and go to step 6.)
  6. Click Next…and follow steps until installation completes.
  7. Restart Server.

Hi Daniel,

The easiest way to check if the CMS driver is installed or not, just go to the directory "....\dataAccess\connectionServer" and find out if the directory "cms" is present or not, also under "....\dataAccess\connectionServer\setup" whether the file "cms.setup" exists or not.

if not available, you should install it. Use "setup" (on Windows) as described in other answers, or "modifyOrRemoveProducts.sh" on Linux.

.....

You can also do this manually by copying the driver files from the installation files or install the "content.msi". (....\dunit\connectivity.connectionserver.drivers.cms-4.0-core-nu)

See my answer for how to do this manually. (Apply the same steps, but for the cms driver)

Ayman, if you do it manually, will it still be updated when patches are applied?

It may be installed by default on new BI4.2 SP05 deployments, but it is not included by default when upgrading from a prior version that did not include it.

To check, re-run setup.exe. Proceed to the "Select Features" tab, then scroll all the way to the bottom. If "CMS DB Driver" is unchecked, then it is not installed. You can install it from here, but be aware that it will do a full re-install and may take a while.

Hi Joe,

Thank you, the option is unchecked so i have to install. If it be a ful re-install, should a re-install the Lumira AddOn as well?

Best regards Daniel

I'm not certain, but I don't think so.

it should just add the missing driver.
Make sure you do not unselect or select anything else to minimize impact.
