BW Shutdown activities and Post Upgradation activities during ECC Upgrade

Hi

We are Upgrading our SAP R/3 to ECC6.0. Can anyone please let me know a list of shutdown activities and Post Upgradation activities needed to be performed from BW perspective. Our BW system is 3.5 version.

Hi,

1. In ERP: Lock the user. Stop all jobs. So you don't have any changes in the system.

2. you need a empty delta queue. Start all process chains, there a DELTA uploads, twice times. So you are sure, that the delta is in the BW.

4. stop the process chains.

5. Have you BBS to ERP? Then lock also in BW the user. Nobody should be use the system during the patch/upgrade.

After the upgrade:

- activate the source system

- test the datasources

Hi,

There are still several activities apart from the mentioned by our friends like.

1. Set up tables fill up & Deletion.- to ensure that BW extractors are working fine.

As pert of Pre Upgrade it self it is advisable to have the Snapshots of the Data sources strucure like the Fields, selection fileds, hide fields etc. as i have done the Pre Upgrade and Post upgrade activities on Various R/3 systems for Oracle Upgrade , Plug -in Upgrade etc. in some cases i my self noticed changes to the Inventory Data sources structure changes.

We should defenitely do all these Pre Upgrade tests to ensure that nothing is corrupted after upgrade.

2. Data Clearance.

Before System is about to undergo upgarde we are supposed to clear all the delta Queues through LBWE transaction and clear SM12 lock entries from then R/3 system.

3.Extraction of Data from Data sources throuch RSA3 transaction.

SOme Extractors throw dump while execution.

4. Need to check wehther INIT in BW are fine and anle to fetch DELTA from R/3 system.

5Possible creation of new INIT.

6. Full upload tests to BW system.

Still many are there to check before and after Upgrade of an R/3 system with Respect to BW system.

Hi Padma,

This could be more an BASIS activity. And on BW part you can check the behavior/status of the objects.

There is a possibility that some objects gets inactive in the upgrade.

Check the data loads by running process chains. Also check other important activities like Attribute Change Run, ODS request activation, Aggregates, rollup activities.

Try to create some sample reports to check the designer behavior after upgrade. Run some reports and see if the basis navigation activities are working properly.

These activities should be done before and after upgrade so that you can differentiate if there is any deviation.
