Display long text for hierarchy nodes - base characteristic only has short!

We are using hierarchies for the caracteristic 0sales_off in BW. The characteristic is setup with only short text, but nodes in the hierarchies can have both short, medium and long texts.

When we make a query using a hierarchy it always shows the short text for both characteristics and nodes. In the query designer we can choose between "standard" and "short text" but they both show the short text! We want it to show medium or long texts for the nodes and short for the characteristic.

The only way I have been able to achieve this is by manually at query run-time choosing "properties" and changing the display of the hierarchy nodes.

Is there anyway to default the characteristic hierarchy display to use another text length for nodes than for the base characteristic?

Hello Thomas,

No there is no other way - except for making that setting in the runtime.

May be you could do one thing - make the settings as you need in the runtime and then save that as a view.

Then broadcast that view instead of the query - if you are using an enterprise portal as the starting point to run the queries.

Thanks Shweta

I came to the same workaround myself - we are not using EP but publishing in Web Applications should work too.

Strange design decision, though...
