API call to an external service from an on-premise Gateway (Fiori front end) ?

We have a requirement where we are creating a custom Fiori Ui5 application for manufactures to create an article/material using the UPC code. During the creation of article, we want to do a quick API call to a GDSN service called FSE.Net to bring more attributes into SAP. We are on SAP S/4 1709 on-premise with a Fiori HUB.

Is this possible on the on-premise verision ? Or is this a cloud-only feature ? The Gateway FES which hosts the Fiori UI5 is on-premise.
