Hi experts,
What is Unit testing and Integration testing .what are the PP related activities done during unit testing. Is regression testing & unit testing same.
regards,
Shanmugam
Hi Vivek,
Thanks.
By unit testing does it refer only to the production cycles, for a PP person, say create PIR, check if the same appears in MD04, followed by MRP run, convert planned into production order, followed by order release, confirmation. So testing all the above activities as a cycle and finding it Ok means unit testing is OK for PP.Is it correct.
By integration testing, I understood as the cycles related to other modules like after order confirmation, goods receipt, quality lot creation ,result recording for QM and so on, where more than one module is related. Have I understood correctly.

Dear Shanmugam,
yes you are partly right
Unit testing - this will done module wise, For example PP, SD, MM etc
integration testing - we need to check whole client scenarion form start to end, whether process mapped
in SAP is working correct or not ( and this involves all modules )

Hi,
Yes you're interpretation is correct. The unit test scripts are prepared for a single business function & will be specific to a particular module normally.
So as you said, it could be test production order creation, this will have different methods, i.e. single conversion, mass conversion etc. So you're test steps could be, go to MD04, check planned order details. Convert planned order to production order, check dates, quantity etc. Then save production order & check in MD04.
For the test scripts you can obtain the same from your senior consultant or Project lead. I guess going thru' one will give much clear picture than me writing a lot of stuff here.
Good luck.

Vivek

Thanks Kumar,
One more clarification. Are we to test the entire PP cycle in unit testing or say for example, after MRP run, testing if planned ordres are created will also mean a unit testing ( That is, testing a PP cycle part by part will also mean unit testing).
also Please tell me what is regression testing.

Shanmugam

Dear Shanmugam,
Unit testing -
in simple words all related transcations from PP point of view i.e master data & excecution part ( MRP, plan
order, productions )
integration testing -
full cycle from starting, just anm example from Sales to CO ( cntrolling, settelment )
so for above all modules consulatnts are required for their respective transcations.

Hi Kumar,
Why it is partly right?
