EPM report refresh takes long time when another office program is running.

Hi Everyone,

We are working on Windows 10 - Excel 2016 with EPM 33.3 (Also tries with all other combinations like Win 8 - Win 10, Excel 2013, Excel 2016 and EPM versions after 30). BW 740 SP 17, HANA BPC 810 SP 12, BPC 10.1.

When another Microsoft Office program is running in the background like Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, refreshing worksheet or workbook takes a long time. When we close the other office program, Excel is responded immediately and refreshing is finalizing.

Maybe it's not related to the same issue but, at the same time, Clipboard is locked by the Excel and we can't make any copy-paste on anywhere when the workbook is refreshing.

In our reports, we are using the formatting sheets, we have member formulas, we have retrieve data formulas and we have some calculations under default script logic. But this is not the case, refreshing a workbook consist of 17 worksheets is takes 1 minute, but when we open outlook or another office program it takes more than 20 minutes.

Do you have any suggestion to fix this problem?

There is a SAP Note about it and it's confirmed that there are some performance problem with Office 2016 compared to older versions. SAP provided that SP29 or newer is the solution but they don't guarantee it.

As Vadim said, you need to install software step by step to find out.

Perform tests on the fresh PC with Windows 10. Install ONLY Office 2016 and EPM. Test!

Then add other software step by step...

Hi Vadim,

A consultant from Microsoft checked the issue, deleted antivirus and check but no luck. The same problem appears when we open another office program. They addressed EPM add-in is caused this issue but, we have some other customers with the same software combinations but this is the first time that we faced such a problem.

When we try with Office 2010 it works fine but our customer doesn't want any downgrade related to the Office Support.

Do you have any suggestions about locking of clipboard when refresh is running?

Never seen the mentioned effect! Try to disable your antivirus software and check.
