PCo & OPC UA: Where to get the core components 1.0 redistributable?

Former Member

Hello,

PCo 2.0 requires the "OPC core components 1.0 redistributable (build 224 or later)" (Installation Guide, p. 9) to be able to create a source system of type OpcUaClient. Otherwise the creation fails, because the Opc.Ua.Core assembly could not be found.

But where to get these OPC UA core components? www.opcfoundation.org just offers the core components for the old OPC DA (2.0 & 3.0), which works by the way.

There is a "OPC UA SDK 1.00 Redistributables Setup (x86)" at OPC foundation, which includes the required DLL, but is only available for corporate members of the foundation.

Where can I download the core components?

Regards,

Martin

Info from SAP:

The most official way to get the right dll's [Opc.Ua.Core.dll and Opc.Ua.Client.dll]would be to go to the www.opcfoundation.org -> Downloads -> SDK page, register and get the latest version of the "OPC UA Local Discovery Server 1.00". This package is available for non OPC members.

When installing this SDK the two DLL's that PCo needs in order to run OPC UA would be located in a folder like " C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\OPC Foundation\UA\v1.0\250

" or "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OPC Foundation\UA\v1.0\250"

When running now (again) the PCo 2.3 installer, our installer detects these dll's and simply copies them into the folder where PCo is installed, usually

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\Plant Connectivity\System.

Starting the PCo then again, you can create and run an Agent based on an OPC UA Server as source.

From PCo 2.3 SP 1 on the OPC UA version 1.00.250.8 is required (see release notes).

Install any one of the demo OPC servers like Kepware, Matrikon or softing the OPC UA core components will get installed by default.

Kepware is about to release its OPC UA Server interface. This will be delivered in KEPServerEX version 5.2. We would like to work with you in validating our interface with PCo. For more information, please contact me at Kepware. Roy Kok, VP Sales and Marketing.

Kepware, Matrikon, and softing have no downloadable OPC UA demo servers yet. According to opcconnect.com there is only OPC UA demo server from Unified Automation. I installed it, but PCo still does not find the UA core components.

By the way, it is not a acceptable solution to install a demo UA Server on a production server, just to be able to connect to a remote UA Server. I just need the OPC UA core components like the ones for OPC DA.

For the real OPC UA specifications based server connection, PCo 2.1 has its all core components including OPC UA agents. But its still to be released. So we have nothing to do but waiting for PCo 2.1 to be out in market for dealing with OPC UA related stuffs.

Ok, then let's wait for PCo 2.1.

My last comment on this topic: In the PCo 2.1 Installation Guide (1.0 - 12/14/2009) the "OPC-UA SDK 1.00 redistributable (build 235.0 or later)" is still required. If this is not true, I suggest updating the document.

I was under the impression PCo 2.1 is available now.

I am using PCo 2.0 with a DA 2.0 source. Any luck contacting OPC foundation?

CKxMII,

OPC DA 2.0 was no problem for me either. No, I did not contact the OPC foundation yet. SAP PCo requires a 3rd party component which is not available (or just very hard to find!?!?), therefore at I ask SAP (or SAP developers) in this forum first.

From the Component Installation Guide on Page 9:

Note

If the respective OPC server automatically installed the OPC core components, you do not have to

reinstall them.

I suppose then in theory, since the components are not SAP's to distribute, either they need to be acquired from the OPC Foundation or the OPC server itself would have them as part of its install.
