Validation to fulfill the substitution

Hi Experts

I have created a substitution for project definition for determining the profit center based on plant. To make this function, it is required to save the project definition before structuring WBS.

I wish to create a validation rule in addtion to above substitution, so that if the profit center field value is entered in project defintion, it is through. And if the profit center field is blank, then a validation message to be triggered informing the user to 'Save Project definition to determine appropriate profit center'.

For this purpose, please suggest the validation rule.

you do not need a validation rule - in your substitution rule prerequisite add the pre-req pctr field = blank

Thanks for your reply.

I look for having message because, to have substitution in PD, it is required to save PD before creating remaining structure.

If I complete remaining structure and then save, only the PD gets the substitution and not the remaining WBS elements.

Hence i wish to give a message popup to suggest the user to save the PD before building the remaining structure (This validation is triggered in case if the user does not enter Profit center in PD).

But i believe that, even validation also works at SAVE only!

why do you need to save PD before creating structure

just create the structure and when you finally save the substitution will change the profit centre on PD

I wish to have default of plant & profit center from PD to all the project objects subsequently created (WBS elements, NWH & NWAs)

so add substitution rule in WBS/NWH/NWA to take the value of pCtr from PD - have you checked that out

As you suggested, i have achieved this by specifying substitution from field PROJ-PRCTR.

However, in the same way i tried to substitute for NWH, where the reference PROJ-PRCTR is not allowed.

Any clue?
