How can I create file pattern?

According documentation I can use ?, [vbiu], [TID], [yyyy] .. variables, but it's not working the variables are not replaced.

pattern C:\EDI\[TID].xml with result C:\EDI\[TID].xml

pattern C:\EDI\[yyyy].xml with result C:\EDI\[yyyy].xml

pattern C:\EDI\[vbiu].xml with result C:\EDI\[vbiu].xml

pattern C:\EDI\??????.xml with result ERROR
