There are two required parts to work with ABAP : the server and the client, and they are installed separately. SAP GUI and Eclipse are possible clients. The client cannot work if there is no server. The server can be downloaded/installed by following these instructions: https://blogs.sap.com/2018/09/13/as-abap-752-sp01-developer-edition-to-download/

FYI when you post an answer to your own question then others are not notified of that fact. If you are not providing an actual answer to your own question then use comment button under the existing answer to respond to that person. In this case at least they'll get a notification and will know you replied.

And if you want to reply to another comment then, since there is no more Reply button for the comments, use @ and then enter the person's name. We used to be able to reply to other comments (which would also trigger a notification) but not anymore. See this post.

I will say please reach out to your basis/security team for server details and access. Are you trying to do it for your practice at home? As Sandra already mentioned you have the clients installed but you also need a server to log onto.

Dear Ann

One is your can add the system in Eclipse before hand by choosing new connection which will actually give your the systems maintained in SAP Logon pad taking care of everything. In your case you will need to provide routing details which you have maintained in your SAP Logon pad.

Do you have SAP logon system running on localhost?

Thanks
