Is java only portal good enough for LSO learning portal?

I did several LSO projects on XSS usage type which is ABAP+JAVA.

Now I wonder if LSO learning portal can be on a JAVA only portal (i.e. not XSS usage type ).

Could you tell is this possible?

Yes. Portal is required only to host some wrapper iViews and Pages over BSP pages which are rendered from the abap system.

If you want to use Java only portal, you will need a standalone backend sap system.

ABAP system must be a usage type XSS enabled system?

you do not need XSS for LSO. You can just install the portal business package for ESS and use iviews and pages for LSO only and ignore other portal objects included in the business package for XSS. You do not need XSS business package for LSO.

Respect to your query , i gone thorough lots of document and came to conclusion that XSS usage type is not required in AS java for LSO .

You can use LSO on java part.
