SQL.personal server duplicating out of control on my new HP laptop

I just bought a new HP laptop, and all of my files are popping up in duplicate. The duplicate files all have SQL.Personal Server attached to them. SQL Anywhere is what is on the files. When I try to move or delete them they say I can't because they are open in SQL Anywhere Personal Server. I can't put them in folders. I don't know what to do about it. I called microsoft and they couldn't figure out what to do -- they thought it might have something to do with one-note, which I uninstalled but the files are still duplicating, unusable and undeletable. It's like a virus. Can you help?

Hi Gabriel,

Can you confirm the Control Panel(Program and Features) of this PC?
Does SQL Anywhere exist two here? When SQL Anywhere is unnecessary, you can uninstall this.
When you cannot uninstall, please confirm Task Manager. When SQL Anywhere process exists, you can perform kill of the process in it in End task.

Thanks,
Atsushi

I cannot envision how the files are being duplicated. But here are some diagnostics that I would use from Microsoft Sysinternals. I would start with Process Monitor which will identify what processes are using the files and hopefully what process is causing the duplication of the files. It captures copious amounts of information so you will need to use the filtering gear to investigate and narrow the problem.
