Hi,

you should follow the official system copy guide

https://service.sap.com/instguidesNW70 (SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) / Installation)

Please note that you find lots of useful information here also

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I have seen these manuals and notes. But I am not sure with the following

I am planning to restore PRD DB ( not export import method ) from backup to a new system QA1 , In what step of the sapinst , I restore the database ? Is there any option in sapinst that it will allow me to restore DB at one point and after restore sapinst will continue and finish the installation ( R3SETUP had this option with 4.6C )

Thanks ,

Hello Mamun

Please follow the SAP Note 151603 - Copying an SQL Server database

Please find steps below to prepare the target (QAS/DEV) system by the PRD server.

1) Prepare the Migration CD on source system by running the sapinst.

2) Detach and copy the PRD source DB into the target (QAS) OR restore the PRD DB into the target system (No downtime required)

3) Attach the PRD DB and bring online the system if you detach it.

4) Uninstal and drop the database on the target system (QAS)

5) rename the folder and files by the QASData1 on target system what you copied from the PRD.

6) Attach the QAS DB again on target system which you renamed recently.

7) Run the sapinst and select the System Copy->MS SQL Server->Target System->Central System-> Based on AS ABAP and AS Java---->Central System Instalaltion ((do select stack according to your system))

😎 Follow the Post Instalaltion Steps as defined in the System Copy.

********************************

You can STOP SQL Server services and copy the PRD Database to the target system...instead of detach and attach the DB.

Hi Anwer,

Thanks for your detail reply, I think I am pretty close to the solution with your help.

"Prepare the Migration CD on source system by running the sapinst" - do you mean by this I have to export the source system by sapinst

If your production and qls are only having abap instance then you can go ahead with database backup and restore method.

restore database prd backup into qls and use sapinst -> additional software life cycle task -> system copy -> MS SQL Server -> Target System -> Central system -> Based on AS ABAP -> Central system installation.

Hello Mamum!

If you are using the java stack then you can prepare the migration CD using the sapinst..System copy>source system>java stack to prepare the migration CD.
