Impact on BPS after removing Office web component (OWC)

Hi all,

We are planning to upgrade from BPS to IP.

I have two questions:

1. We are removing the Office Web Component (OWC), what would be the impact on BPS?

2. Does Integrated planning require OWC for manual planning?

Thanks for all in advance.

Regards,

BI Team.

Hi,

1 OWC is optional in BPS; it was used in web interfaces, e.g. to do local calculations and formatting.

2 OWC is not used in BW-IP.

BW-IP uses e.g. Analysis Office as a client where one can use Excel features; calculations with business logic can and should be done on the server (planning functions, formulas in queries); BW-IP uses web templates or web applications designed in Design Studio (or Lumira).

Gregor

Looks like Microsoft has stopped supporting OWC in 2017.

Found that OWC11 was not installed in users system. Got OWC11 installation from another system and installed it in impacted system.

Still issue persists. Do I need to maintain anything post installation?

Is it mandatory, to have an OWC11, to make 'excel in web' work? If not, is there any way to avoid 'OWC cannot be used' error.

Thanks in advance Gregor. Will wait for your reply. Strange is, it works in system installed with SAP GUI 7.5 and not in system installed with SAP GUI 7.6, both having OWC11 installed.
