Dear Friends,

We are installing the SAP Content Server 640 on Windows 2003 X86 platform. We would like to use the MAXDB 7.7 database for it.

When I tried to serach for MAXDB 7.7 installation files on SAP MarketPlace, I have found the following...

1> MaxDB RDBMS 7.7.04 Build 28 - Windows Server on x64 64bit -

51035704_12

2> MaxDB RDBMS 7.7 Update -

51035704_14

Do you folks know, when do we use the 2nd one and how????

Also, I have found the following:

3> MAXDB 7.7.07.12 Application Runtime Package MAXDBART7707_12-10004357.SAR

4> MAXDB 7.7.07.12 Server Package MAXDB7707_12-10004357.SAR

What are these (ABOVE) packages for?????

Kindly explain to me on these...

Thank you,

Nikee

You'd need the second one in case you already have a MaxDB instance on an earlier release.

So for the initial installation you don't need it.

The server package contains the latest patch for the MaxDB database software.

Make sure to download it and install it after you installed the content server database with the medium 1) of your list.

The application runtime package is a stripped down version of the server package.

It only contains the client software and would be used for NetWeaver application servers that should access a MaxDB but where no MaxDB database is running on.

As the client software is also part of the server package, you don't need the medium 3).

Anyhow, the suggestions to read the installation guides and the sap notes referenced in there very carefully are good ones.

As long as you follow these guides you shouldn't get into problems - but without you're likely to get problems.

regards,

Lars

Hello Nikee,

it's not you but SAP himself to decide which database is compatible with a certain product

You must follow the installation manual, you can find it easily in SAP Service Marketplace for Unix and Windows operating system. In the marketplace follow the quick link installation guides, SAP Content Server, the complete url is the following: service.sap.com/instguides

If you search the software following the path Download - Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group - SAP NetWeaver - SAP Content Server you can find the media for 6.30 version and not 6.40

So, to find the media required, refer to the installation guide
