We currently allow all users to access SE16 to view tables that we do not currently have reports for. With this we have seen many users who are not aware of how many records are in a given table and try to download the entire table to Excel. Even though the user has selected to only display 100 records on the screen the download process still try to download all data that matches the criteria in the selection fields. This then may try to download 10+ million records causing the application servers to run out of memory and paging space based on the download. We have contemplated trying to make a custom SE16 that hard codes how to only limit the # of records that can be downloaded at at time. Does anybody know of another way to do this besides creating a custom report for every user need? Thanks.
Hi,
Allowing access to direct se16 is not a good practice, you can provide them access to tcodes sq01/2 where users can create querys using tables. This can be useful where a non technical person can work with tables.
The long term idea would be the usage of reports and updating their roles to access the same.
Cheers Sam

We have some use of SQ01 but users typically have to be more technical to use that tcode. Unfortunately, we have enough problems and we have decided as a company that SQ01 is not our final tool at this point. SE16 is something we want to take away from all users except for on an exception only basis but we are not at that point yet. Since most users have been told to use this method it will be hard to migrate them off of it without a better option that is as easy as SE16. Thanks.
