Capturing of Resources Planned Costs and Project Coding Mask in PS and PPM

Hi Experts,

I am somewhat new to PPM and working on a SAP PS and PPM Implementation Project in SAP S4/HANA 1.0.

Please help in understanding following processes to map out correctly.

1. Resource/Task Planned Costs to be captured in PS or PPM?

To my understanding, we can select and assign Resources to tasks in PPM-Project Management. We can maintain cost rate in Customization for Resources to derive the planned costs for Resources or tasks which can be further synchronized with PS and will appear as a planned costs into PS report. But, how about the case when the business wish to plan costs for everything in PS and Resource planning in PPM. To fulfill this requirement, can we create an internal activity with Work center and Activity type to determine plan costs for that activity in PS and Resource planning and assignment to tasks (equal to WBS element in PS) in PPM?

Thereafter, the relevant Resource will be able to see assigned tasks and can fill the timesheet in CAT2 and Approval via CATS_APPR_LITE. Thereafter, we will run a report “DPR_CATS_CPR_TRANF” to transfer CATS hours to PPM.

Is my understanding and way of fulfilling requirement good enough?

2. Creation of Projects and Synchronization in SAP PS, PPM and MS-Project.

Business is running some Project in MS-Project also. So, they need to transfer MS-Projects and Synchronization with PS Projects. I am thinking to propose to transfer first MS-Project in PPM to create a similar Project in PPM (includes Phases, Tasks, Sub-Tasks etc.) using Import/Export Project function. Thereafter, then create a Project manually or automatically in PS via PPM.

Thus, same project will exist in all the 3 systems (PS, PPM and MS-Project). Later on, data can be synchronized from PPM to PS and MS-Project and vice-versa.

Is my understanding and way of fulfilling requirement good enough?

3. Same Project code/number in PS to be used as Item number in PPM.

We can create a Project in PS and PPM-Project Management automatically by linking an Item in Portfolio Management. Business need to use same Project number (as in PS or Project Management) as Item code in PPM.

Thus, all three (Project in Project Management, Project in PS and Item number) will remain same.

4. Can we have Resource breakdown structure (RBS) in PPM?

If yes, where and how can we build? If it is a part of HCM, where and how can we build?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Sandeep,

I am facing the same problem for Question 1.

You said you were able to maintain cost rate in Customization for Resources to derive the planned costs for Resources.

Please, where and how did you maintain the cost rates for a ressource (Business Partner)?

Best Regards

D

Dear Sandeep,

I´m providing some information concerning item 2.)

To synchronize data from PPM-Item to PS-Project or Project Management Project you can use the functionality of Decision Flow Management (DFM). The scenario is described in Wiki under: https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/Attribute+Synchronization

To synchronize data from PS-project to Item you can find the necessary settings in Wiki under:
https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=449905597

The PPM-Project can be exported to MS-Project and imported from MS-Project.

Below you can also find some information concerning Item 3.):

In PPM-PFM:
The Item-ID is derived from the number range object RPM_EXTID. The ID can be influenced with BAdI RPM_OBJECT_SERVICES (Method GET_NEXT_NUMBER_FOR_EXTID).
Information are available in KBA Note 2179188 - Influencing the numbering of Portfolio item-ID

In PPM-PRO:
The Project Management Project ID is created based on number range object DPR_EXTID. The ID can be influenced with BAdI DPR_ATTRIBUTES (Method: GENERATE_PROJECT_ID).

The PS Projectnumber is automatically taken over from the Project Management Project when the PS-Project is created via accounting integration. With BAdI DPR_FIN_GECCO_ATTR and method MODIFY_ATTRIBUTES the attributes can be changed.

Thanks a lot Judith for your response.

It will surely help me to move forward.

I am still looking an answer on my Question no. 1 and 4.

Also, how about my understanding on Question no. 2?

Best regards,
