Commit work taking longer time

Hi All,

During our performance tests, the results were not matching to the expected ones and while analysing more with a trace in ST05, the commit works and inserts to various DB tables takes more time. (average time per run is considerably high)

When checked in DB02, it gives alerts like

Wait Time per Log Write (ms) exceeds 10 milliseconds

Check the I/O performance of the database server

We also observed that the execution time increases with more number of executions (though the DB tables are cleared after every execution).

But with a system re-start, it goes back to the first run's result.

Is it related to some DB parameter setting..Any pointers will be helpful.

Thanks,

Liji

    Hello Liji

It does sound like a DB issue. Since you didn't mention the details of your environment, what's your SQL version? Probably you're running SQL 2005 x64 if this is a new implementation. If so, could you check this note below for a configuration as a rule of thumb?

Note 879941 - Configuration Parameters for SQL Server 2005

If this is not helpful, please bring in more details of your environment.

    Best regards,

    Hi Liji,

It doesn't seem to be a DB issue only. The issue behind the I/O could be because of several reasons including the DB layout(where are your DB and log files located, where is the tempdb, etc.). Also, what do you mean by "the results were not matching to the EXPECTED ones "? Are you comparing the results with any other system as a reference?

    Best Regards,

    Abhi

One thing you may want to review is the disk utilization within ST06 (ST06 > Detail analysis menu > [previous hours] Disk) to see if you have an I/O issue at the storage level.

    Hope that is helpful.
