Manual upgrade of 8.8 database

In my instance the Upgrade Wizard under Server Components I can only select Server Tools, everything else is not selectable. I can manually run the upgrade for Common Database, Help, Outlook Integration and Addons.

I have tried to upgrade from 2007A SP49 to 8.8 SP03 in Windows Server 2008 on SQL 2008 all 64bit.

My question is now that you cannot trigger a database upgrade via the client as per SBO 200xA and B, how can you trigger if the wizard fails?

I have looked through SP Note 1285922 ( https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1289522 ) Collective upgrade issues for 8.8 and there is no mention of any similar issues, I have received no error messages during my upgrade, so I cannot see why I can't upgrade, unless of course 8.8 is not ready for 64bit?

One note from 8.8 system requirement: B1 does support all 2008 Server versions but not IA-64 based server platform. Is that related to you?

    Thanks,

    Hi Gordon,

I am using a AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core processor, I have been using SBO 2007 without any problems. I can create new databases in 8.8 and it appears I can perform transactions, however I just cannot upgrade my old 2007 database via the wizard.

Yes, I use it for sales demo's, I have a client who needs new functionality and wants to look at 8.8 before making a decision, I thought this was going to be an easy process, however it is now far from...

Since you need to include both server and client on your notebook, I believe that IS NOT an easy job for new version upgrade. Read installation instruction carefully to follow every single steps. If you find anywhere that do not apply, check it out for reason.

Does this mean that in a live environment you will be unable to upgrade all transactions on the server? Additionally is there now no way to upgrade a database except via the wizard?

    Hi Gordon,

I solved the issue by fully uninstalling the upgrade SBO 8.8 and then downloading and reinstalling the full version.

Once installed the Upgrade version was then able to detect the database and allow the upgrade to proceed.

I am now very wary of the SBO 8.8 upgrade tool and I am worried about what existing customers are going to have to go through when they try to upgrade....

    Many thanks

    Hi Gordon,

    Addon issues

Because I fully unistalled the old 2007 version of SBO, the new 8.8 version wants to uninstall the SBO Addons. Of course they have all been removed so it cannot uninstall them.

Is there anyway to break the link so that I can install the new addons as required?
