Could anyone help to recommend the best sequence activities or solution to do this upgrade?

Thank you & best regards,

You can perform upgrade and unicode conversion even if your souce is 4.7 .

Peform the upgrade to ECC 6.0 ( consider including EHP4 along with the upgrade)

Once upgrades perform a unicode export .

You will have the unicode export Dump.

The Target system installation is the intresting part if you wanna setup HA.

You have to install the target as using the High availablity option.

You can decide where do you wanna install your ASCS,SCS , app server and DB.

the central services are a SPOF and needs to be highly available. so it needs to be cluster.

ALso consider peforming enqueue replication if you need your enqueue to be highly available.

IF you are performing the install on the logical system you have to use SAPinst USE_HOSTNAME while installing the target.

last but not lease , Go through the master guide , install guide and conider all you options before you proceed

Hi Amnat,

Unicode conversion requires a system copy.

You may go as for a CUUC.

You may consider this one also.

Initially you perform the unicode conversion and as a part of it you may perform the system copy to a bigger hardware.

Unicode import is done in the new hardware.

Now you have moved the system to a new hardware and it is unicode now.

You may upgrade the ECC 5 unicode to ECC 6 unicode in the new hardware.

The advantage here is you need to do the system copy only once.

check which will be suitable for you requirements and based on that go for the conversion.

Hi,

As per my personnel experience, I will suggest you below approach:

1) First do homogeneous system copy to migrate your system to new server. In homogeneous system copy you can upgrade your database as well.

2) Then do the combined Unicode and upgrade (check SAP Note 928729 - Combined Upgrade & Unicode Conversion (CU&UC) FAQ)

3) Then do the clustering.

Thanks

Sunny
