how deferred changed to ref in step -7

hi all,

In Navigation and Routing Tutorial at the Step - 7 when i navigate to resume i can see that the binding showing as

resume.png

while if we observe them in json we see

deferred.png

how this deferred changed to ref , what if i use now Json data ( came using direct ajax call ) instead of oData then also will it change to ref?
