Adding new characteristic

I have to add a new characteristic to my POS. I have read documented process and several threads but need specific answer and hence asking.

I take the data backup, deactivate the PA; add the new Char; now after this do I need to generate CVCs from the MPOS? Now, in the when I will try to re-load the data from backup cube to planning area; how can I make sure that the new Char is being taken care of?
